Hello to my fellow thespians and dreamers!
I'm Darius, an actor with over two decades of experience who's embarking on a thrilling new adventure! I'm joining the ranks of Shakespeare & Company for their Northeast Regional Touring production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." It's a journey that feels like a perfect fusion of my past experiences and future aspirations.
At the beginning of 2023, I set a clear goal for myself: to FINALLY book a Shakespeare job. With determination and passion, I ventured into the audition process and, to my delight, secured a spot in just my second audition. It felt like the stars had aligned, guiding me to this moment.
As we move through the icy grip of January to the gentle embrace of May, I'll be traveling across the Northeast, stepping into the shoes of Lysander, Fairy 2, and Snug. These characters, each with their own quirks and charms, offer a rich tapestry of experiences, challenging me to delve deep into the essence of Shakespeare’s storytelling.
Over the past few weeks, I've been engrossed in preparation. Days filled with memorizing lines, understanding the nuances of each character, and getting lost in the rhythm of Shakespeare’s timeless language. It's been a period of intense learning, gearing me up for the diverse experiences that lie ahead.
The tour itself is a multifaceted endeavor. Alongside traditional performances in schools and venues, we are also bringing Shakespeare’s magic to life through sensory-friendly and public shows, broadening the reach of these timeless tales. Each performance is an opportunity to touch hearts and minds, to bring the joy and complexity of Shakespeare to diverse audiences.
My role as a teaching artist is particularly close to my heart. Merging my love for performance with my passion for teaching, I'll be guiding young minds through the intricate world of Shakespearean drama. It's an opportunity to inspire and be inspired, to share my journey and learn from the fresh perspectives of my students.
As I step into this tour, I carry with me the experiences and lessons learned from my time with the Family Repertory Company. They've been instrumental in shaping me as an artist, providing opportunities to act, direct, teach, and manage. This foundation will be vital as I navigate the varied aspects of this tour.
